Horizons 2025:
Actionable AI
Horizons is LISUG’s flagship annual event—our crown jewel—where technology, innovation, and community converge in one unforgettable experience. But this year, we’re going beyond inspiration. Horizons 2025: Actionable AI is your launchpad to start building with artificial intelligence. Whether you're a seasoned developer, a curious newcomer, or a business leader ready to explore AI, this is where theory turns into real-world skills—and projects.
AI Session 1: No-Code/Low-Code AI Solutions
Pallavi Nargund will lead this hands-on session exploring how to build generative AI applications using powerful no-code and low-code tools. You’ll learn how to access a curated selection of foundation models from top AI providers and create secure, responsible applications with built-in privacy, security, and governance controls. Pallavi will demonstrate how to transform data into executive summaries, run natural language queries, and generate automated insights and visualizations—all without writing code. Whether you’re a developer looking to accelerate delivery or a business user ready to dive into AI, this session will show you how to go from concept to production-ready AI faster than ever.
AI Session 2: Code Assistants: Integrating AI into Your Development Environment
Wim Jongman takes the stage for a high-energy, practical session focused on how developers can integrate AI into their everyday coding workflows. Through real-world examples and actionable techniques, Wim will show how AI-powered tools can help write cleaner, more efficient code, catch bugs faster, and streamline problem-solving. You'll learn how to boost your productivity and elevate your development process—whether you're working solo or within a team. The session wraps with a live, from-scratch coding demo, where Wim will build an entire application using AI in real time, giving you a front-row seat to the power, speed, and even quirks of collaborating with AI in your dev environment.
AI Session 3: Agentic and Multi-Agent AI
Jesse and Pallavi team up for a live demo that brings the world of multi-agent AI to life. In this session, you’ll see how intelligent agents can be designed to reason independently, collaborate with one another, and dynamically complete complex tasks as a coordinated system. From decision-making to orchestration, they'll walk you through how agentic workflows are built and scaled—laying the foundation for smarter, more automated solutions. Whether you're curious about agent-based systems or ready to build your own, this session offers a practical, behind-the-scenes look at what’s possible when multiple AIs work together.
AI Session 4: How to Build an AI Chatbot on Your Own PC in Under an Hour, Including RAG!
Jesse Gorzinski leads this fast-paced session designed to show just how accessible building with AI can be. You’ll learn how to build your very own AI chatbot - powered by large language models and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) - running entirely on your local machine. No servers, no complex infrastructure, just real results in under an hour. Jesse will guide you through loading the model, integrating real data, and deploying a chatbot capable of answering real-world questions. Lastly, we will demonstrate how to call the large language model from RPG or Db2 programs on IBM i, bridging the gap between traditional IBM i programming and modern AI technologies. Whether you're experimenting at home or building something for work, this session will prove that powerful AI is truly within reach.
There’s also a sneak peek at something IBM’s been quietly working on—Code Assistant. We can’t say much… but you’ll want to be there.
